Wow! This is a very cool organization that was brought to my attention through the folks from Getting 2 Tri.
I am so loving this project, so many folks have given me a heads up on some great organizations and this is one of them!
Day 7s organization is: The Rally Foundation (http://www.rallyfoundation.org)
Started by a group of neighbors who realized the importance that research plays in the fight against cancer; the Rally Foundation raises money through grass roots initiatives to fund cancer research. They even have an ING Training Team!!
From their website:
"Rally Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, through volunteers across the country, raises awareness and funds specifically for childhood cancer research to find better treatments and cures for childhood cancers.
In our first three years, Rally Foundation has provided more than $1 million in childhood cancer research grants, 2nd year research awards for young investigators, research nurses and fellowships supporting 39 projects in 22 hospitals nationwide. For every dollar Rally receives, 93 cents goes to support Rally’s mission according to our audited financials. Rally Foundation supports all phases of childhood cancer research from science at the bench (very early research) to Phase I, II, and III clinical trials including targeted therapies, DNA studies and survivorship studies. Rally Foundation is also excited to help fund the collaborative research of more than 5,000 physicians, scientists and nurses at 200 hospitals nationwide. These physicians and nurses treat more than 90% of the children in the US with cancer. Eighty percent of these children are enrolled in clinical trials."
Lots of giving and volunteer opportunities throughout the country! More information here: http://rallyfoundation.org/index.php/volunteer
